Baltal, June 27: In a significant step towards ensuring uninterrupted power supply during the upcoming Shri Amarnath Ji Yatra 2025, the Managing Director of Kashmir Power Distribution Corporation Limited (KPDCL),Mahmood Ahmad Shah (JKAS), conducted an extensive on-ground review of the power infrastructure and arrangements at Baltal.
Accompanied by Chief Engineer (Distribution) Er. Aqiba Sachdeva, Superintending Engineer O&M Circle Ganderbal Er. Arshad Hussain Reshi, and other senior officers including Executive Engineers, AEE, JE, and technical staff, the MD assessed the preparedness of the power distribution network to meet the demands of the Yatra, scheduled to commence on July 3.
During the visit, the MD issued clear instructions to field teams to ensure uninterrupted 24×7 power supply throughout the Yatra period. He was briefed on the comprehensive illumination and power arrangements made at key locations including Baltal, Domail, Ranga-Morh, Y-Junction, Baltal-Domail Road, government camps, Shrine Board offices, langars, and temporary accommodations.
The team apprised the MD of the recently commissioned underground infrastructure to restore grid connectivity from Rayil Pathri (Km 5.00) to the Holy Cave. This includes the installation of Distribution Transformers (DTs) and octagonal lighting poles along the Yatra track. Adequate fuel reserves have been stocked at all locations, with mechanisms in place for timely replenishment. Additionally, buffer DTs and standby DG sets have been deployed to handle any emergencies.
The MD also inspected newly created Distribution Sub-Stations catering to infrastructure developments and CRPF camps at Baltal, as well as the installation of solar street lights and 7-meter octagonal lighting poles at the Pony Stand for enhanced illumination.
Commending the dedication of the engineers and ground staff, Mr. Shah said, “Our teams are working relentlessly in tough terrain and extreme weather to ensure seamless electricity supply for the Yatra. Their professionalism and commitment are truly commendable.”
He further emphasized that KPDCL is fully committed to ensuring a resilient and responsive power supply framework. “The Shri Amarnath Ji Yatra is a sacred pilgrimage and a matter of collective responsibility. KPDCL will continue to extend full institutional support to all field units to ensure a smooth and safe experience for the devotees,” the MD assured.
