Ganderbal, July 28 (KNZ): A viral video complaint by a tourist regarding poor sanitation facilities in Sonamarg has prompted swift action from authorities after Kashmir News Zone (KNZ) brought the issue into public focus.

The matter came to light when Ashok Singh, a tourist from Hyderabad, shared a heartfelt video during his visit to the Thajiwas Glacier trail, expressing visible disappointment over the lack of public toilets. “How can a world-famous destination lack such a basic necessity?” he questioned, in a video that soon spread across social media platforms and drew widespread public attention.

KNZ was among the first media outlets to highlight the video and the broader issue of inadequate infrastructure, sparking debate and urging accountability from local authorities.

Responding to the concerns, the Sonamarg Development Authority (SDA) acted promptly by installing a second mobile toilet facility at the endpoint of the Thajiwas trail adding to the existing one already set up at the trailhead.

The move has been widely appreciated by both tourists and local stakeholders, who see it as a positive step toward responsible tourism management.

This episode stands as a powerful reminder of the role credible journalism plays in driving real-world change. In today’s digital age, a single voice when amplified by the right platform can lead to meaningful governance response.

As Sonamarg continues to witness high tourist footfall this summer, residents and business owners hope this action marks the beginning of sustained improvements in public services and civic amenities.
