Srinagar, Aug 14 (KNZ): The Jammu & Kashmir Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) has trapped and arrested Aamir Farooq Sheikh, Junior Engineer in the Rural Development Department, Shopian, for allegedly demanding and accepting a bribe of ₹20,000.
As per ACB officials, the action followed a written complaint alleging that a payment of ₹7.5 lakh, related to works executed by the complainant, was pending. The accused JE had allegedly sought ₹20,000 to facilitate its release.
A trap was laid after discreet verification of the allegations. The accused was caught red-handed while demanding and accepting the bribe amount, which was recovered from his possession in the presence of independent witnesses. He was arrested on the spot.
Following the arrest, searches were carried out at his residences in Kachdoora, Shopian, and Kanipora, Nowgam, Srinagar. Searches were still underway when this report was filed.
