GANDERBAL, JUNE 24: In a major action against corruption, the Jammu and Kashmir Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) on Monday arrested an official of the Geology and Mining Department while accepting a bribe of ₹10,000 in Ganderbal district.
According to an official statement, the ACB received a written complaint from a local JCB owner alleging that Ghulam Mustafa, District Head (D.H) and in-charge of the area, had demanded a bribe of ₹20,000 for granting unofficial permission to lift soil from a specific site. The complainant further revealed that the official had demanded ₹10,000 as an advance.
Acting swiftly, the ACB conducted a discreet verification through a designated officer, which confirmed the allegations. Following this, a case FIR No. 10/2025 under Section 7 of the Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988 (as amended) was registered at Police Station ACB Srinagar.
A trap team was subsequently formed, and during the operation, the accused official was caught red-handed while accepting ₹10,000 from the complainant. He was immediately taken into custody.
Officials confirmed that further investigation into the matter is underway.
The Jammu and Kashmir ACB reiterated its commitment to zero tolerance against corruption and urged citizens to report any instances of bribery or misuse of official position.
