Ganderbal, Mar 15 (KNZ): Police have seized a JCB excavator and a tipper allegedly involved in illegal extraction and transportation of minor minerals in Jammu and Kashmir’s Ganderbal district, officials said on Sunday.
The vehicles were found extracting and transporting mining material without valid authorisation, in violation of prescribed norms, they said.
Police seized the machinery on the spot and the matter was subsequently taken up with the Geology and Mining Department, which imposed fines under relevant provisions of law.
Officials said the action was part of an ongoing crackdown on illegal mining in the district and reiterated their commitment to curb such unlawful activities that cause environmental damage and loss to the public exchequer.(KNZ)
