Baramulla, Dec 02 (KNZ): In a strong enforcement move, the District Mineral Office Baramulla has intensified its crackdown on illegal mining during the first month of posting of District Mineral Officer (DMO) Er. Zulfikar Mohammad Shafi.

According to the department, 107 vehicles, including tippers, tractors and other machinery, were seized for their involvement in unauthorised extraction and transportation of minor minerals across the district. Officials said penalties amounting to ₹16 lakh were imposed on violators during this period.

The department has also registered eight FIRs against individuals allegedly involved in repeated or serious violations of mining regulations.

DMO Er. Zulfikar Mohammad Shafi said the administration has adopted a zero-tolerance policy towards illegal mining and cautioned that any violation of mineral laws will be dealt with strictly as per legal provisions.

Officials added that the intensified enforcement measures are expected to curb unauthorised extraction activities and ensure better protection of environmental and public resources.

The officer has made a significant impact during his first month of posting in Baramulla, setting a strong precedent for strict enforcement.KNZ
