Jammu: The Vocal Department of the Institute of Music and Fine Arts (IMFA), University of Jammu, hosted a soulful and vibrant music concert titled ‘Baisakh Sangeet Madhumaas’ to mark the auspicious occasion of Baisakhi. The event was a musical tribute to the spirit of harvest and religious harmony.
Renowned music director and writer Shri Brijmohan graced the event as the Chief Guest, while eminent violinist S. Amarjeet Jhandu was present as Guest of Honour. S. Jung S. Berman, a well-known artist, social activist, and journalist, along with distinguished journalist and writer Mr. Sunny Dua, were the Special Guests.
The concert was inaugurated by Prof. Shohab Inayat Malik, Principal of IMFA, who applauded the efforts of students and faculty for organizing such a meaningful event. In his address, he underlined the significance of Baisakhi in promoting communal harmony and reflected upon the teachings of Guru Nanak Dev Ji and Guru Gobind Singh Ji, commemorating the formation of the Khalsa Panth.
The evening unfolded with a series of captivating performances:
Nirmal Kumar, Anand Kumar, and Priyanshu Gupta rendered a soulful Gurbani Shabad, with tabla accompaniment by S. Navraj Singh. Assistant Professor S. Karanjeet Singh showcased a graceful Khayal in Raag Patdeep, followed by a Gurbani Shabad and Bhajan, accompanied by Sh. Amit Anand on tabla and Nirmal Kumar on harmonium.
S. Navraj Singh further impressed the audience with a rhythmic Teentaal presentation, with support from Nirmal Kumar. The cultural richness of the region was highlighted through a Dogri folk song by Raamlal, Rakesh Kumar, Rhythm Yusuf, and Rahul Mangotra.
Senior faculty members Sh. Suraj Singh and Dr. Deepali Wattal captivated the audience with Ghazals and Gurbani Shabad Kirtan. Other faculty members including Dr. Sumit Madan, Sh. Rakesh Kumar, Sh. Rohit Verma, Sh. Raj Kumar Sharma, Dr. Roshi Shaminotra, Ms. Bindu Sharma, Sh. Rajesh Kumar, Sh. Vijay Kumar, Dr. Sujata Rajput, Sh. Chanderdhari Kesar, Sh. Amit Anand, and Sh. Ajay Sharma, along with a large number of students, were also present and participated in the celebration.
The concert was met with overwhelming appreciation from the audience, resonating with spiritual and cultural fervor. Dr. Deepali Wattal delivered the vote of thanks, expressing heartfelt gratitude to all dignitaries, the Principal, faculty members, students, and participants for making the event a grand success.
