Uri, Feb 01 (GNS): A residential house was completely gutted in a fire incident at Gagee Mohalla, Nambla in Uri area of north Kashmir’s Baramulla district, officials said on Sunday.
The house, the officials told GNS, belonged to Sharbat Gagee, son of Mithu Gagee.
“Locals, assisted by police personnel, made strenuous efforts to control the blaze, however the structure was completely destroyed, with all household belongings reduced to ashes,” officials said.
Residents in the meantime said that due to an acute shortage of water and lack of motorable access to the area, fire and emergency service vehicles could not reach the spot. In a desperate attempt to contain the flames, locals were seen using snow to douse the fire.
The cause of the fire remains unknown.
Meanwhile, revenue officials along with the concerned chowkidar visited the affected family soon after the incident and provided immediate relief, including bedding and blankets.
An official from the Uri administration told GNS that an assessment of losses is currently underway and assured that further assistance will be extended to the affected family as per established norms. (GNS)
