Baramulla Sept 17 (KNZ): In a major crackdown on illegal mineral extraction, the Geology & Mining Department Rafiabad team, on the directions of District Mineral Officer (DMO) Baramulla, Sarfaaz Shaban, busted an illegal sand mining hideout at Waripora today.
The operation was carried out under the close supervision of Area Incharge Tariq Abdullah, along with the department’s field staff. Acting swiftly on credible inputs, the team raided the spot and dismantled the hideout being used for unlawful extraction and storage of sand.
Officials said the joint action highlights the department’s commitment to curb illegal mining activities, which not only cause revenue loss to the government but also lead to severe environmental degradation. The crackdown is part of a sustained district-wide campaign to safeguard natural resources.
The DMO Baramulla, Sarfaaz Shaban, appreciated the efforts of the Rafiabad team and the support extended by Police in executing the operation successfully. He cautioned those involved in such unlawful practices that strict legal action will be taken against violators as per the provisions of law.
Meanwhile, the department has urged the general public to cooperate in protecting local resources and report any instances of illegal mining in their areas, assuring that timely action will be taken.KNZ
