Ganderbal, Dec 9:In a sustained crackdown on illegal mining activities, Ganderbal Police has intensified enforcement across the district, seizing 10 vehicles involved in unlawful extraction and transportation of minor minerals during the previous week of December.
According to officials, the seized vehicles include eight tippers and two tractors, intercepted within the jurisdictions of Police Stations Kheerbawani, Lar, and Gund. These vehicles were allegedly transporting illegally extracted material from Nallah Sindh without requisite permissions.
Acting in coordination with the Geology & Mining Department, police teams stopped the vehicles on the spot and initiated legal proceedings against the violators.
Meanwhile, in the jurisdiction of PS Safapora, the Geology & Mining Department imposed fines on five tippers at Koundal for overloading soil, further tightening regulatory enforcement in the area.
Authorities said illegal extraction not only causes substantial loss to the public exchequer but also threatens the ecological balance of the region. Ganderbal Police reiterated its firm commitment to protecting natural resources and warned offenders to immediately desist from illegal mining activities.
The police emphasized that stringent legal action will continue against all individuals involved in unlawful extraction, transportation, or trade of minerals.KNZ
