Ganderbal, Dec 1:In a major legal breakthrough, District Police Ganderbal has secured life imprisonment for an accused in a grave offence under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act).

According to officials, the accused Varinder Thakur, son of Yadav Lal Thakur, a resident of Sariswa, Bihar, was convicted by the Court of Principal Sessions Judge, Ganderbal, which awarded him life imprisonment along with a fine of ₹50,000 under Section 6 of the POCSO Act.

The court also handed down additional sentences in related offences Section 342 IPC: One year imprisonment and a fine of ₹1,000.Section 506 IPC: Two years imprisonment and a fine of ₹2,000

Police said the conviction was made possible due to strong prosecution efforts. Public Prosecutor Shafat Ahmad Bhat prosecuted the case, while Public Prosecutor Jehangir Rafiqi argued it during trial.

The investigation was conducted by PSI Rayees Ahmad, whose thorough and professional work played a crucial role in establishing the case.

Police said the judgment reinforces Ganderbal Police’s commitment to protecting vulnerable sections of society and ensuring strict action against perpetrators of such heinous crimes.
