GANDERBAL | June 17, 2025:In a significant breakthrough in a long-pending heinous crime, Ganderbal Police has secured a conviction against a rape accused in connection with a 2017 case. The Hon’ble Principal District and Sessions Judge Ganderbal has sentenced Ghulam Mohammad Lone, son of Abdul Samad Lone, resident of Pethpora Chattergul, to 10 years of rigorous imprisonment along with a fine of ₹1,00,000.
The case stemmed from a complaint lodged on April 13, 2017, by a woman (identity withheld) from Pethpora Chattergul, alleging that the accused had forcibly entered her house and raped her, which later resulted in pregnancy. The incident had sparked widespread outrage in the locality.
The case was registered under FIR No. 27/2017 U/S 376, 451 RPC at Police Station Kangan. After a detailed trial process, including examination of witnesses and evidence, the court pronounced its judgment, holding the accused guilty of the charges.
The prosecution was effectively led by Public Prosecutor Shafat Ahmad, representing the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir in the Sessions Court.
The conviction underscores the continued commitment of the judiciary and law enforcement agencies in delivering justice, particularly in cases involving crimes against women.
