Ganderbal, 7 Feb:In a decisive crackdown on land-related fraud, Ganderbal Police have arrested a notorious land broker accused of cheating multiple individuals by fraudulently selling disputed and Government land as his own property.

The accused has been identified as Javid Ahmad Gojree, son of Ali Mohammad Gojree, resident of Rangil, Ganderbal. Police officials stated that he posed as a legitimate land broker and deceitfully induced people to invest in properties that were either under legal dispute or belonged to the Government.

During investigation, it was revealed that the accused is a habitual offender with a criminal history. He has previously been booked in several cases, including FIR No. 172/2018 U/S 447, 427 RPC; FIR No. 136/2018 U/S 341, 323 RPC; FIR No. 127/2019 U/S 341, 352, 504, 323 RPC; FIR No. 232/2023 U/S 420, 120-B IPC; and FIR No. 17/2026 U/S 217, 336(1), 340(2) BNS.

According to police, multiple complaints were filed by victims who later discovered that the land shown to them was neither legally owned by the accused nor free from disputes. Further investigation into the matter is currently underway.

Ganderbal Police have appealed to the public to exercise caution while dealing in land transactions and to verify land records through authorized channels before making any financial commitments. Residents have been urged to report any suspicious land-related activity to the nearest police station.
