Ganderbal Police have taken preventive action against an individual for repeatedly making false emergency calls, thereby misusing the ERSS-112 helpline and wasting valuable police resources.
On February 2, 2026, at around 8:00 pm, Police Post Shadipora received information through ERSS-112 via PCR Ganderbal that a caller, Parvaiz Ahmad, claimed that his wife had been assaulted and sought immediate police assistance.
Acting swiftly, the police contacted the caller and rushed a police team to the given location. However, upon reaching the spot, the caller had switched off his mobile phone. Subsequent verification revealed that the complaint was false and misleading.
Further inquiry disclosed that Parvaiz Ahmad Saeed, son of Ghulam Ahmad Saeed, resident of Narayanbagh, is a habitual offender who has repeatedly made fake distress calls. Records show that he had lodged three false complaints through ERSS-112 during January 2026 alone. His actions were found to be deliberate, aimed at creating unnecessary panic and diverting police attention from genuine emergencies.
Based on statements from his wife and other family members, and in view of his repeated misuse of emergency services, the individual has been detained by Police Post Shadipora under preventive provisions of law to safeguard the sanctity and effectiveness of the ERSS-112 emergency response system.
Ganderbal Police reiterated that ERSS-112 is strictly meant for genuine emergencies. Misuse of this critical service can lead to legal action and may delay assistance to people in real distress. Citizens have been urged to act responsibly and cooperate with law enforcement agencies in maintaining public safety.
