Ganderbal, February 19, 2026:In an effort to ensure public safety, maintain law and order, and safeguard the security of the prominent tourist destination of Sonamarg, Ganderbal Police carried out a special enforcement drive targeting unregistered service providers, particularly photographers operating without valid authorization in the Sonamarg tourist area.
During the drive, police identified and detained 11 unregistered photographers under relevant provisions of Sections 126/170 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS). The detained individuals were subsequently produced before the Executive Magistrate, Gund, for further legal proceedings.
Police officials stated that the action was taken in view of the security sensitivity of the tourist destination and the necessity to regulate services offered to visitors.
The drive aimed to prevent inconvenience, exploitation, and any untoward incidents involving tourists.
Alongside enforcement, the police team from Police Station Sonamarg conducted an awareness programme for service providers operating in the area. They were sensitized about the importance of proper registration, adherence to legal norms, professional conduct, and maintaining courteous behaviour while dealing with tourists.
Ganderbal Police reaffirmed its commitment to maintaining a safe, secure, and tourist-friendly environment. Authorities also urged all service providers to obtain proper registration and strictly follow the law, warning that strict legal action will continue against violators in the interest of public safety and effective tourism management.
