Ganderbal, October 7:In a determined move to promote a healthy and drug-free environment for students, Ganderbal Police has launched a special district-wide drive against the illegal sale of cigarettes and tobacco products near educational institutions and public places.

As part of the campaign, inspection teams carried out extensive checks at various locations including Beehama, Duderhama, Gangerhama, Kangan, Safapora, Kondbal, Gutlibagh, Shadipora, Nagbal, Gund, Kullan, and Sonamarg. Several shopkeepers found violating the provisions of the Cigarettes and Other Tobacco Products Act (COTPA) faced strict legal action.

The drive aims to restrict the easy access of tobacco products to minors and raise public awareness about the harmful effects of tobacco use. Shopkeepers were sensitized about the legal prohibition of selling such products within 100 yards of school premises and were warned of strict consequences for future violations.

Reaffirming the commitment of the police towards community welfare, SSP Ganderbal Shri Khalil Ahmad Poswal-JKPS urged parents, teachers, and civil society members to join hands with police in eradicating this menace by reporting violations to the nearest police station.

Ganderbal Police reiterated its resolve to safeguard youth from addiction and ensure a safe, healthy, and tobacco-free environment conducive to learning and growth.
