Ganderbal,08 Jan (KNZ):In a decisive action against timber smuggling, Jammu and Kashmir Police in Ganderbal successfully seized a consignment of illicit timber along with the vehicle used for its transportation and arrested the accused involved in the crime.
During routine naka checking near Wussan, a police team from Police Station Ganderbal intercepted a suspicious load carrier bearing registration number JK16B-4440.
Upon inspection, the vehicle was found loaded with eight (08) logs of illegally felled Kail timber. Sensing police presence, the driver fled the spot, abandoning the vehicle.
A detailed verification revealed that the timber was being transported without any valid permit or legal documentation. Consequently, the vehicle along with the seized timber was taken into custody as per legal procedure.
In this connection, FIR No. 04/2026 under Section 303 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and Section 26 of the Forest Act has been registered at PS Ganderbal, and further investigation was taken up.
On the directions of SSP Ganderbal Shri Khalil Ahmad Poswal-JKPS, a Special Police Team was constituted to trace the accused.
Following sustained and strenuous efforts, the accused Irshad Ahmad Dar, son of Mohd Qasim Dar, resident of Nilahnajwan, Kangan, was successfully apprehended and lodged behind bars.
Ganderbal Police reiterated their unwavering commitment to curbing illegal timber smuggling and safeguarding the forest wealth of the district, warning that strict legal action will be taken against anyone found involved in activities leading to environmental degradation.KNZ
