Sonamarg, July 17(knz): As part of a routine enforcement drive, Food Safety Officer Fayaz Ahmad, under the supervision of Sub-Divisional Magistrate (SDM) Kangan, Mr. Nazir Ahmad Bhat (JKAS), carried out a surprise inspection of several hotels and restaurants in the scenic Sonamarg area on Thursday.
During the inspection, the team lifted four legal food samples for laboratory testing to verify compliance with the Food Safety and Standards Act (FSS Act), 2006, and its Rules & Regulations, 2011.
The inspection revealed multiple deficiencies in hygiene and documentation. As a result, improvement notices were issued to three hotel proprietors for failing to produce mandatory documents, including water quality analysis reports, pest control certifications, and medical fitness certificates for food handlers, as required under Schedule-4 of the FSS Act.
Additionally, one hotelier was fined ₹2,000 under Section 69 of the Act for maintaining unsanitary conditions within the premises(knz)
