Sonamarg: Acting on the directions of Worthy SDM Kangan, Mr. Nazir Ahmad Bhat (JKAS), the Food Safety Officer, Kangan, conducted an extensive market inspection in Sonamarg today to ensure the availability of safe and hygienic food for consumers and tourists.

During the inspection, all roadside vendors, dhaba owners, and selected hotels serving ready-to-eat food were thoroughly checked. The Food Safety Officer directed them to strictly maintain high standards of hygiene and sanitation within their premises as mandated under Schedule-4 of the Food Safety and Standards (FSS) Act, 2006, and its Rules and Regulations.

Vendors and hoteliers were also instructed to strictly comply with food labeling regulations to prevent the sale or serving of expired food items to consumers.
Additionally, on-the-spot fines amounting to ₹400 were imposed on individuals found violating Section 4 of the COTPA Act, 2003 (prohibition of smoking in public places).

The department also collected food samples from various establishments for further laboratory analysis under the provisions of the FSS Act, 2006.

Officials stated that such inspections will continue in the coming days to ensure public health and consumer safety.
