Srinagar, Aug 20 (KNZ): Hon’ble Additional Special Judge Anti-Corruption Court Srinagar, Shri Faizan-ul-Haq Iqbal, today convicted retired IAS officer Habibul Hassan Beigh, the then Member of the J&K Special Tribunal, in a long-pending disproportionate assets case (FIR No. 22/1997, P/S VOK, now ACB Srinagar).
The court sentenced the accused to one year’s imprisonment and imposed a fine of ₹15 lakh.
The case, registered on 24 April 1997 under Section 5(1)(e), 5(2) of the Prevention of Corruption Act, 2006 read with Sections 12/14 of the J&K Public Men & Public Servants Declaration of Assets Act, 1983, alleged that the officer had accumulated assets disproportionate to his known sources of income.
During investigation, the Vigilance Organisation Kashmir (VOK, now ACB) established beyond doubt that the accused had amassed huge movable and immovable assets. The charge sheet was filed before the Anti-Corruption Court on 13 November 2000.
After a full trial, the Hon’ble Court found the accused guilty and awarded the sentence. The case was successfully prosecuted on behalf of ACB Srinagar by Senior Prosecuting Officer Wajahat Jameel.
