Ganderbal, May 5, 2025:In a major breakthrough against the menace of drug trafficking, Ganderbal Police apprehended a drug peddler and seized a significant quantity of contraband substance during a naka operation in the Kheerbawani area.
Following the directions of Senior Superintendent of Police, Ganderbal, Shri Khalil Ahmad Poswal-JKPS, a special naka was established by the Police Station Kheerbawani at Baroosa Chowk. During the course of checking, a suspicious individual, upon noticing the police presence, attempted to flee the spot. Demonstrating quick reflexes and coordination, the naka team intercepted and apprehended the suspect tactfully.
Upon personal search, the police recovered and seized Codeine Phosphate, a banned substance under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act. The accused has been identified as Ashiq Ahmad Dar, son of Abdul Hameed Dar, resident of Sarai Dangerpora, Bandipora.
In this regard, a case FIR No. 17/2025 has been registered at Police Station Kheerbawani under the relevant sections of the NDPS Act, and further investigation has been set into motion to trace the source and network involved.
The Ganderbal Police reaffirm their unwavering commitment to cleanse society of drugs and protect the youth from falling prey to addiction. Citizens are encouraged to come forward with any information related to drug peddling in their vicinity. The identity of informants will be kept strictly confidential.
This arrest marks yet another firm step in the district’s ongoing war against drugs.
