Srinagar, Sept 2 (KNZ):The Economic Offences Wing (EOW) of Crime Branch Kashmir has registered a formal case against two individuals for allegedly duping people by promising fake contracts in NHPC and the Defence sector.
The accused, identified as Kumail Ansari and Yetsen Kumar, were booked following a joint complaint that accused them of cheating and criminal conspiracy.
According to officials, the duo falsely posed as influential figures capable of arranging lucrative contracts, thereby inducing victims to pay substantial sums of money. However, no contracts were ever secured, confirming fraudulent intent.
A preliminary enquiry was initiated at Police Station EOW in 2023, which prima facie established that the accused had resorted to impersonation and deliberate misrepresentation to cheat the complainants.
On the basis of findings, the actions of the accused were found punishable under Sections 419, 420, and 120-B of IPC, leading to registration of an FIR.
The Crime Branch Kashmir has assured that investigations are being carried out meticulously to ensure that those involved in economic crimes are brought to justice.
