Baramulla, 20 Nov : The Power Development Department (PDD) has initiated the augmentation process of the Boniyar Receiving Station, upgrading its capacity from 6.3 MVA to 2×6.3 MVA, as confirmed through an official communication issued by the Assistant Executive Engineer, Sub-Transmission Sub-Division Baramulla.

According to the letter addressed to the General Manager, NHPC Gingal Uri, the PDD has requested immediate permission for the movement of vehicles carrying civil material and electric equipment required for the augmentation work.

The department has also designated JE Sheikh Mehmood Rayaz to coordinate with NHPC staff and CISF at the Boniyar station to ensure smooth execution of the project.

However, locals have expressed concern over delays caused by restricted access to the receiving station premises.

Residents of Boniyar and adjoining villages have appealed to MLA Uri Dr. Sajjad Shafi Uri to personally intervene in the matter and take it up with GM Uri-I, ensuring that PDD teams are permitted priority entry for uninterrupted and timely completion of the augmentation work.

People said that this upgrade is crucial for resolving long-standing power issues in the region and should not face any administrative hurdles.

They emphasized that since winter is approaching, timely completion of the augmentation work will provide much-needed relief to the entire constituency.

Locals hope that with the intervention of the MLA, the matter will be expedited and all necessary support will be extended to the PDD for smooth progress of the project.
