Anantnag:The Jammu and Kashmir Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) has trapped and arrested Manzoor Ahmad Ahanger, a clerk in the office of the Rural Engineering Wing (RDD), Anantnag, for demanding and accepting a bribe in lieu of releasing payment for sanctioned work.

According to official sources, the ACB received a written complaint stating that the complainant’s father had constructed an irrigation ladh and, upon completion of the work, the bill was duly forwarded through the concerned quarters to the RDD office, Anantnag. It was alleged that the accused clerk openly demanded a bribe from the complainant for clearing the payment.

Unwilling to succumb to the illegal demand, the complainant approached the Anti-Corruption Bureau seeking legal action against the accused. Following receipt of the complaint, the ACB conducted a discreet verification, which confirmed the demand of bribe by the government employee.

Consequently, FIR No. 06/2025 under Section 7 of the Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988 was registered at Police Station ACB Anantnag, and investigation was set into motion.

During the investigation, a trap team was constituted, which successfully laid a trap and caught the accused red-handed while demanding and accepting the bribe. He was arrested on the spot, and the bribe amount was recovered from his possession in the presence of independent witnesses associated with the trap team.

Subsequently, a search of the residential house of the accused was conducted in the presence of Executive Magistrates and independent witnesses.

Further investigation in the case is ongoing.
