Srinagar, July 17: The Shri Amarnathji Yatra was suspended on Thursday from both Pahalgam and Baltal base camps following continuous heavy rainfall over the past two days.
Officials said the persistent downpour has damaged tracks along the twin routes, necessitating urgent restoration work. The Border Roads Organization (BRO) has deployed additional men and machinery to ensure the routes are safe before the Yatra resumes, likely on July 18, subject to weather conditions.
“Due to the continuous rains over the last couple of days, urgent repair and maintenance works are required to be carried out on the tracks. Therefore, it has been decided that no movement shall be allowed towards the Holy Cave from the two base camps today,” said Divisional Commissioner Kashmir, Vijay Kumar Bidhuri.
However, pilgrims who spent the night at Panjtarni camp are being allowed to return to Baltal under the supervision of BRO personnel and Mountain Rescue Teams.
So far, over 2.47 lakh devotees have paid obeisance at the Holy Cave during the ongoing Yatra.
