Ganderbal, July 12 (KNZ): An Amarnath Yatri, identified as Surinder Pal Arora S/O Gain Chand Arora R/O Ludhiana, went missing near Z-Morh glacier on the Baltal route, prompting a massive multi-agency search operation in the area.

According to officials, around 12:30 AM, Arora, who was descending from Brariimarg to Railpathri in a group of seven pilgrims, began exhibiting erratic behaviour due to high-altitude sickness. Witnesses said he started running up and down, took cold water showers, and later jumped from a railing near Z-Morh close to a glacier.

Following the incident, District Police Ganderbal along with Multiple Mountain Rescue Teams (MRTs) of SDRF, NDRF, JKAP, CRPF, VHGS, and other agencies launched a coordinated search and rescue operation to trace the missing pilgrim.

Authorities have also deployed drones to aid in the search in the challenging glacier terrain, assuring that all possible resources are being utilised to locate the missing yatri at the earliest.(knz)
