Srinagar, June 27: The Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) has filed a chargesheet in a bribery case involving two former revenue officials accused of demanding and accepting a bribe for processing land-related documents.

The chargesheet was presented before the Court of Additional Judge Anti-Corruption, Srinagar, in connection with FIR No. 15/2022 under Section 173 Cr.P.C.

The accused have been identified as:

Jamil Hussain Khan, then Patwari Halqa Baghat-e-Shoor, Owanta Bhawan, Soura, Tehsil Eidgah – booked under Section 7 of the Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988 (as amended in 2018), and Section 120-B IPC.

Shafat-ur-Rehman Bhat, retired Patwari – charged under Section 12 of the Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988, and Section 120-B IPC.

The case was registered following a complaint that Jamil Hussain Khan, through his associate Shafat-ur-Rehman Bhat, had demanded ₹9,000 as a bribe to facilitate revenue documentation. Acting swiftly, ACB laid a trap on April 11, 2022, leading to the recovery of the bribe money.

Subsequently, an FIR was lodged, and after thorough investigation and requisite government sanction, the chargesheet was formally submitted on June 27, 2025, for judicial determination.

Notably, Shafat-ur-Rehman Bhat has previously been convicted in a separate corruption case registered in 2009. The court has fixed August 13, 2025, as the next date of hearing.

The ACB continues its commitment to eradicating corruption and ensuring accountability in public service
