Baramulla, Feb 6: Baramulla Police on Friday strongly refuted a viral social media claim alleging a terrorist rocket attack on an Army oil tanker in Baramulla, terming it a deliberate act of misinformation aimed at spreading fear and panic among the public.
In a statement issued here to news agency Kashmir News Corner, Baramulla Police has spotted a fake post circulating on X (formerly Twitter) through the following link:
https://x.com/kussikhuelafn/status/2019669960411459757?s=63a claims that militants has fired a rocket at an Army Oil tanker in Baramulla, which is completely false and intended to cause unnecessary panic.
The facts are that on 5 February 2026 at around 1730 hours, an empty oil tanker bearing Registration No. JK01AN-8569 caught fire near Chinar Point, Pattan, while returning to Srinagar after unloading oil at Uri. Police and Fire & Emergency Services, Pattan responded promptly and brought the fire under control. The incident was accidental, caused by a short circuit, and no casualty or injury was reported.
The spreading such false information is a punishable offence and those circulating lies will face *Strict legal action under relevant provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and the Information Technology Act, 2000, it reads.
The public is advised to avoid sharing unverified content and to rely only on official sources for authentic informatqion, it reads.
