Ganderbal 23 Dec:In its continued crackdown against drug abuse and illicit trafficking, Ganderbal Police on Tuesday apprehended two drug peddlers and recovered a heroin-like substance from their possession within the jurisdiction of Police Station Kheerbhawani.

Acting on the directions of SSP Ganderbal, Shri Khalil Ahmad Poswal (JKPS), a police team from PS Kheerbhawani was conducting routine naka checking at Central University, Tullamulla Road, when they intercepted a Maruti-800 vehicle bearing registration number JK01U-3866.

During the checking, the police apprehended two individuals identified as Showkat Ahmad Bhat, son of Bashir Ahmad Bhat, and Sameer Ahmad Bhat, son of Mohammad Muzaffar Bhat, both residents of Batwina, Ganderbal. Upon conducting a thorough search, a heroin-like contraband substance was recovered from their possession.

The recovered substance was seized in accordance with legal procedures. Subsequently, FIR No. 41/2025 under relevant sections of the NDPS Act was registered at Police Station Kheerbhawani, and further investigation is underway to trace the source and possible distribution network of the contraband.

Ganderbal Police has reiterated its zero-tolerance policy against drug trafficking and has appealed to the public to cooperate by sharing any information related to narcotics or illegal drug activities to help curb the menace from society.
