Ganderbal, Dec 2: A major firefighting operation was carried out today in compartment 21 of Manasbal in the Wangath forest block, where officials from the Forest Protection Force (FPF) unit RC Urpash, forest staff, and other allied wings jointly continued efforts to douse the remaining portions of a wildfire.

The operation was conducted under the supervision of Assistant Director Sindh, Mohammad Yousuf Magray, and Assistant Director Mansbal, Jahangir Khan, who personally guided the ground teams and demonstrated advanced fire-control techniques.Their involvement reportedly boosted the morale of the field staff engaged in the challenging task.

According to officials on the ground, nearly 85% of the fire has been successfully extinguished. However, the remaining portion particularly the middle stretch of the affected area continues to pose difficulty due to unstable burnt stones, smouldering stumps, and loose debris rolling downhill, making the area hazardous for responders.

During the operation, Block Officer Wangath sustained injuries after being struck by falling material. He was provided immediate assistance at the site.

Officials said the firefighting teams will continue working until the fire is fully extinguished, despite steep terrain, continuous rolling debris, and residual heat posing operational challenges.

Authorities have urged the local population to avoid the affected area and refrain from activities that could trigger rekindling of fire or create safety risks.
