Ganderbal, October 23, 2025:In a decisive move to curb the menace of illegal mining and transportation of minor minerals, Ganderbal Police has intensified its crackdown across the district, registering a case and seizing multiple vehicles involved in unlawful extraction and transport activities.
Acting on specific information, joint enforcement teams from Police Station Gund and Police Station Safapora, in collaboration with officials of the Geology and Mining Department, launched coordinated operations along Nallah Sindh and adjoining areas. During these drives, 03 tippers engaged in illegal transportation of minor minerals were intercepted and seized on the spot.
Following the operation, FIR No. 17/2025 under Section 21 of the Mines and Minerals (Development and Regulation) Act was registered at Police Station Safapora, and further investigation has been initiated.
In a similar action, a special team from Police Station Sonamarg, assisted by district mining officials, conducted a targeted drive against the illegal dumping and storage of sand along the banks of Nallah Sindh. During the inspection, one individual was found in possession of approximately 70 metric tonnes of sand, which was subsequently seized. A fine amounting to ₹20,160 was also imposed and recovered from the violator on the spot.
A police spokesperson stated that Ganderbal Police remains committed to acting firmly against individuals involved in illegal mining, emphasizing that such activities not only lead to irreversible environmental degradation but also cause substantial loss to the public exchequer.
The public has been urged to extend cooperation by promptly reporting any instances of illegal mining or transportation to the nearest police station for swift and effective action.
