Ganderbal, October 19, 2025:In a heartfelt tribute to the brave police personnel who laid down their lives in the line of duty, Ganderbal Police on Sunday inaugurated the Police Martyrs T-20 Cricket Tournament at Gorwan Lar. The event marks the beginning of a series of activities being held in loving memory of the police martyrs who made the ultimate sacrifice for peace and security.
The tournament was formally inaugurated by SSP Ganderbal, Shri Khalil Ahmad Poswal-JKPS, who graced the occasion as the chief guest. Several cricket teams from across District Ganderbal are participating in the event, showcasing their talent, teamwork, and passion for the game.
While addressing the gathering, SSP Ganderbal commended the enthusiasm and sportsmanship of the players, emphasizing the vital role of sports in fostering discipline, unity, and a healthy lifestyle among youth. He encouraged the participants to utilize their energy and talent in constructive pursuits, steering clear of negative influences such as drug abuse.
He further said that sports not only strengthen physical fitness but also help inculcate leadership qualities and teamwork — values that resonate with the spirit of the police force and community service.
It is pertinent to mention that the Ganderbal Police has organized a series of sports, cultural, and educational activities — including volleyball tournaments, marathons, cultural programmes, and other co-curricular events — as part of a 10-day commemoration of Police Martyrs, which will culminate on 31st October 2025.
Senior police officers of District Ganderbal were also present at the event and interacted with players and spectators, appreciating their participation and commitment.
