Srinagar, June 26:The Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) Srinagar has trapped and arrested a Mineral Supervisor from the Geology & Mining Department for allegedly demanding and accepting a bribe of ₹15,000.

According to an official statement, the ACB received a written complaint from Meraj-Ud-Din Cheeta, a resident of Pandrethan, Srinagar, alleging that Basharat Habib, a Mineral Supervisor, had demanded a bribe for permitting the lifting of minor minerals (sand).

Upon receiving the complaint, ACB Srinagar conducted a discreet verification, which substantiated the allegations. As a result, an FIR (No. 11/2025) under Section 7 of the Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988 (as amended), was registered, and an investigation was launched.

A trap was subsequently laid by the ACB team, leading to the arrest of the accused red-handed while accepting the bribe. He was taken into custody on the spot, and further investigation is currently underway.

Significantly, this is the second such incident involving the same department in recent days. Just two days prior, another official was caught accepting a bribe of ₹10,000 in the Safapora area.

The Anti-Corruption Bureau reiterated its commitment to eliminating corruption from public offices and promoting transparency and accountability in governance. Citizens have been urged to report any instance of corruption without fear, as part of the collective effort to build a corruption-free society.
