Baramulla, June 17:The Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) of Jammu and Kashmir has booked a revenue official (Patwari), Mohd Ayoub Khan, in a high-profile case of disproportionate assets, following a discreet verification into allegations of unexplained wealth.
According to officials, the case was initiated after the ACB received a complaint against Ayoub Khan, son of Gulsheer Khan, a resident of Doniwari Lolab, presently posted as Patwari in the Revenue Department. The complaint alleged that Khan was living a lavish lifestyle and possessed several immovable properties including houses in Bemina (Srinagar) and Doniwari Lolab (Kupwara), large tracts of agricultural and orchard land, multiple vehicles, and had incurred heavy expenditures, including donations for securing professional education for his children in India and abroad.
Upon verification, the ACB found that Khan had acquired assets grossly disproportionate to his known sources of income during the check period. Key findings include:
Purchase of land and construction of a double-storey house in Hamdaniya Colony, Bemina,Construction of another double-storey house in his native village, Doniwari Lolab,Purchase of a Hyundai Venue car and a two-wheeler,Massive repayments towards multiple bank loans amounting to around ₹75 lakh,Expenses related to his children’s professional education, including MBBS admission abroad and nursing studies in Amritsar.
Officials revealed that immediately after receiving notice of the complaint, the accused started availing frequent bank loans in an alleged attempt to legitimize his income and mislead investigators.
The acts of omission and commission by the accused public servant are said to constitute criminal misconduct under Section 5(1)(e) read with Section 5(2) of the J&K Prevention of Corruption Act, Svt. 2006. Consequently, FIR No. 03/2025 was registered against him at the Anti-Corruption Bureau Police Station in Baramulla on June 16, 2025.
Following the registration of the case, the ACB secured search warrants from the Hon’ble Anti-Corruption Court, Baramulla, and conducted raids at multiple locations linked to the accused. During the searches, several incriminating items, including receipts of gold purchases, iPhone 15 and 15 Pro invoices, and other key documents were recovered and seized in the presence of magistrates and independent witnesses.
Further investigation is underway, and more revelations are expected as the case progresses.
