Ganderbal, Mar 5 : Police have seized three tippers allegedly involved in illegal extraction and transportation of minor minerals in Jammu and Kashmir’s Ganderbal district, officials said on Thursday.
The vehicles were intercepted during a special drive conducted by police at Police Post Nagbal and were found transporting mining material without valid permission or legal documentation, they said.
Acting swiftly, the police team seized the vehicles on the spot to prevent further illegal extraction and transportation of minerals. The matter has been taken up with the Geology and Mining Department, and challans have been issued against the violators under relevant provisions of law.
Officials said the drive is part of an ongoing crackdown on illegal mining in the district, adding that such activities cause environmental damage and loss to the public exchequer.
Police urged the public to report any instances of illegal mining or transportation of minerals to the nearest police establishment for prompt action.
