Anantnag :A youth was killed and sixteen others injured after government forces fired pellets into protesters in Anantnag town of south Kashmir on Saturday.

Reports said that youth took to streets and staged protests soon after Eid prayers concluded at Eidgah Hanfia and Ahli Hadees.

They said that the protesting youth pelted the forces deployed in the area with stones.

The forces responded by firing tear gas and pellets, triggering further clashes.

At least seventeen youth were injured in the forces’ action, they said, adding that all the injured were shifted to district hospital Anantnag for treatment.

One among the injured, identified as Sheeraz Ahmad succumbed at the hospital. Two youth hit by pellets in their eyes were referred to Srinagar for specialised treatment.
