Ganderbal 31 Jan (KNZ):The Wayil bridge here will remain closed for next 12 days to continue “massive” repair work.

Official said the repair will be done in the road deck portion.He said there is no danger to the bridge and is planning to carry out a massive repair of the road deck portion for next 12 days.

“The work will be done round-the-clock.As many as iron plates of Wayil bridge are going to be replaced.After completing the plates,traffic will be allowed to the bridge”he added .

As per local sources Wayil bridge, which was inaugurated by Mr Farooq Abdullah in 1988, handles a huge volume traffic everyday.

Pedestrians are risking their lives as they walk through freezing Nallah Sind in order to cross to the other side of it,”a local resident said

He said administration should have constructed a make shift footbridge for pedestrians before starting the repairing work on it.

The old joints on road plates had started giving trouble, resulting in falling off plates.As an immediate measure iron plates have been provided to protect the bridge and also to provide a smooth ride.

“For repair to be carried out, vehicular traffic stopped for next 12 days,as the process will have multiple stages requiring fixing of new high strength plates”They added

When Kashmir News Zone-KNZ contacted Executive Engineer R&B Ganderbal said, “We will put in place temporary arrangements​ for the pedestrian who have to cross the Nallah.”KNZ
