SRINAGAR, SEPTEMBER 18: Minister for Revenue Relief Rehabilitation, Reconstruction Abdul Rehman Veeri today said that Government is taking many initiatives to bring vibrancy in the institution of Numberdars and Chowkidars at the village level.

The Minister was speaking at a high level meeting of officials. The meeting was attended by Financial Commissioner Revenue Lokesh Jha, Divisional Commissioner Kashmir Baseer Ahmed Khan, Settlement Commissioner Shahid Inayatullah, Secretary Revenue Muhammad Ashraf Mir, Law Secretary Abdul Majeed Bhat and other officials.

Saying that Numberdars and Chowkidars are basic tool of Revenue Administration, the Minister asked the officers to initiate the process of bringing vibrancy in their functioning.

The Minister said that empowering the basic tool of Revenue department will accelerate the process of development at grass root level.

Mr Veeri also said that empowering the institute of Chowkidars and Numberdars would cement the bridge between Government and people in the implementation of various programme and schemes.

He also said that they will represent the developmental aspirations of the people and will help Government in formulating various pro- people policies and programmes.

Mr Veeri said that strengthening the Numberdars and Institutions would also ensure transparency and accountability in implementation of various programmes.

He reiterated the commitment of Government to take the development at the grass root level.
