Srinagar, Oct 13 : To ensure smooth polling across Kashmir Valley, police have arrested number of pro-freedom activists from different areas.

A Hurriyat activist told news agency CNS on condition of anonymity that Nirsar Hussain Rather is languishing at Kothi Bagh Police Station from past 15 days. Rather is the head of Tehreek-e-Wahdat, a constituent of Syed Ali Geelani led Hurriyat Conference.

He said Tehreek-e-Hurriyat President Muhammad Ashraf Sehrai has been put under house arrest from October 8 while Muslim League leader Bashir Ahmed Chhoni is under custody at police station Budgam from past 17 days.

Similarly, Tehreek-e-Hurriyat leader Imtiyaz Hyder and Peoples League activist Muhammad Attayi have also been lodged at Police Station Budgam from past three days.

Hurriyat Conference Chairman Syed Ali Geelani continues to under house arrest. Jammu Kashmir Liberation Front Muhammad Yasin Malik is in police custody while Mirwaiz Umar Farooq, Hilal Ahmed Var, Zaffar Akbar Bhat and others have been caged as well. (CNS)
