Srinagar, 13 Aug (KNZ) :- Residents, traders and commuters are furious over the “slow pace of work” on an ongoing underground drainage project in Narkara Budgam The work for underground drainage started In Narkara in the year of 2017. The work was started by authorities to cater the basic need of drainage in Narkara but as per locals the work is going at snail’s pace.

Traders whose business units, particularly shops, lie along the road are allegedly being economically affected by the ongoing project. Mohammad Razak, who runs a shop at Narkara, said, “Our business has been suffering for last many months because of the ongoing drainage construction going on the roadside.”

Razak said the dust flying off from the construction site “irks customers” and residents of the locality. He also said the traders are unsatisfied with the pace of the ongoing work. “We have already asked authorities to speed up the work and complete it in the shortest possible time,”

Riyaz Ahmad a student said authorities should  to begin round-the-clock work on the project. The work should be done in double shift to ensure that the project is completed at the earliest. Its leisurely execution has caused immense hardships to locals and commuters,” he said.

Ahmad fears the government would stop the construction in three months with the onset of the winter season. ‘We fear that they will not complete this project and it will lead to waterlogging in every lane here,” he said.

Residents, traders students and commuters also alleged that we are facing a lot of inconvenience due to that underground drainage project we are not seeing any public transport in our area they claimed that on some days not even a single matador or sumo piles on stretch forcing people, including schoolchildren, to walk miles together to reach their destination.

Bhat Saima (Name Changed)  a student told KNZ that ,” it has been two years we haven’t seen any bus in our vicinity. We are facing immense hardships due to non-availability of transport facility as Budgam itself is suffering from transport problem but the thing with narkara is miserable we don’t have even sumo service here.” Due to the slow work on underground drainage project if someday we get the sumo these pothoes do their job and make it journey of hour’s,” bus drivers fear to travel from here”.she added.

Authorities have failed to listen vows of narkara people. We are appealing higher authorities like DC budgam Dr Sehrish Asghar to look into the matter and take us out from this hell.

While our correspondent tried many times to contact DC Budgam Dr Sehrish Asghar and Srinagar SMC Commissioner Riyaz Ahmad but all time they did not respond our calls.(KNZ)
