Ganderbal 27 Sept【KNZ】: Two decades have passed but no funds were earmarked by successive  governments for construction of vital Wayil bridge over Nallah Sind .

Residents of Ganderbal are demanding concrete bridge over Nallah Sind for the last two decades.

Locals Residents said “makeshift bridge  was installed at the spot which connects  vital Srinagar-Leh Highway.The bridge is vary narrow and it is  not able to cater  ever increasing traffic.vehicles can only pass from one  side at a time which causes regular traffic jams.”

Tawseef ,a resident of wayil Ganderbal said “We had been demanding construction of concrete bridge for over two decades ,but successive  governments had turned deaf ears towards our genuine Demand.”

Local populace said “steel bridge was made two decades ago  by Border  road organisation(BRO) after   50 year old wooden bridge collapsed during flood.The bridge is not durable enough .It was often repaired and traffic was deviated to other routes which causes immense hardship to commuters and pedestrians.”

They further said ” during Amarnath Yatra problems get aggrieved . Traffic jams become more regular. commuters had  to wait for hours.Padestrain also sufer as bridge is very narrow which puts them in danger.”

Locals said “Village committee wayil sent number of   representation to district administration for construction of concrete bridge  .They were told by authorities proposal had been made for the construction  of concrete bridge for which 15 crore had be proposed two years ago .but nothing had happened since then.”

When contacted DC Ganderbal, Piyush Singla , He said , “This is indeed very much genuine  demanded.I will send  DPR of the proposed bridge  to the higher-up  and most  likely funds will be available in coming months”
