Srinagar, Dec 26 :- A top commander of Jaish-e-Mohammad (JeM) was killed and a jawan of Special Operation Group (SOG) of Jammu and Kashmir police was injured in a fierce encounter on Tuesday in south Kashmir district of Pulwama, official sources said.

They said security forces and SOG of state police on a tip off about the presence of militants launched a joint search operation at Samboora, Awantipora, in Pulwama at 0030 hrs late last night.

However, when the security forces were sealing the area, militants opened indiscriminate firing with automatic weapons in which a SOG jawan was injured.

Security forces further tightened the Cordon in the village, they said adding exchange of fire continued till 0400 hrs on Tuesday.

However, immediately after the firing stopped, security forces recovered dead body of a top JeM commander.
