Ganderbal 16 Nov (KNZ):The Srinagar-leh Highway, the only all-weather road link connecting ladakh with the rest of the country, was on Saturday thrown open for traffic, Four days after fresh snowfall which led to its closure.

“The Srinagar-leh highway has been thrown open for traffic after the road was cleared-off snow and debris left behind by landslides at few places,” an official of the beacon Department told Kashmir News Zone-KNZ.

He said while vehicles stranded due to the closure of road were allowed to proceed towards Leh tomorrow.

“Traffic was allowed to ply on both ways on the leh highway,” the official said.

The snowfall along with rains led to landslides at few places along the highway which forced its closure.The snow and the debris were cleared-off early morning and the road will be through for traffic.

According to police official that traffic will be allowed from Kargil towards Sonamarg on Saturday subject to fair weather.

“Any decision to allow traffic from Sonamarg side will be taken accordingly later in the afternoon,” he said.

However,he said that the stranded vehicles from Kargil side will be allowed to move first on priority.(KNZ)
