Internet snapped in Valley parts

Srinagar, Dec 15 : A spontaneous shutdown was observed in south Kashmir, Srinagar, and parts of Budgam following the killing of seven civilians by government forces in Sirnoo area of Pulwama district on Saturday.
Reports said that soon after the news about the killings spread, there was spontaneous shutdown in entire South Kashmir, Srinagar, and parts of Budgam.
Shops and other business establishments shut while traffic movement got thinned in these areas with the passage of time.
Reports of protests and clashes were also reported at Sopore where the students of Degree College took to streets and clashed with forces.
The forces used tear smoke shells to quell the protests. However, there was no immediate report of any injury.
Seven civilians were killed and over 50 injured in forces action after the government forces used live ammunition, pellets and tear smoke shells to chase away the protesters near the gunfight site at Sirnoo village.
The slain civilians have been identified as Touseef Ahmad of Urchersoo, Liyaqat Dar of Parigam, Suhail Ahmad of Ballow, Shahbaaz of Monghama, Pulwama, Amir Ahmad Paul of Ashminder, Murtaza Bashir and Abid Hussain Lone of Kareemabad, an MBA pass out from Indonesia were killed as government forces resorted to live ammunition besides pellets and tear smoke shells near the encounter site to chase away the protesters.
Three militants and an army man were killed in the gunfight which erupted today early in the morning in the area.
Meanwhile, the internet has been snapped in South Kashmir and Srinagar while speed has been reduced in Budgam and is being reduced elsewhere in Valley. (GNS)
