Srinagar, May 23 : A special police officer (SPO), posted at the residence of Bhartiya Janta Party (BJP) leader, has allegedly fled with service rifle of personal security officer of the leader at Baramulla district of north Kashmir on Wednesday.

A resident of Shutloo village in Rafiabad, the SPO Waseem Ahmad Malla has gone missing with two other youth from his native village, one of whom has been identified as Arif Ahmad Malla (22) son of Ghulam Mohidin.

Waseem was posted at the guard room of the BJP leader Mohammad Maqbool War at Rohama Rafiabad and he along with two other youth have gone missing since morning along with the service rifle of the PSO identified as head constable Dilshad.

Besides, the service rifle, Waseem also took away some ammunition, they said.

It was not immediately known whether he has joined militant ranks but officials did not also rule out such possibility.

SSP Sopore Javid Iqbal confirmed that the SPO has gone missing along with the rifle.

He said that a police team has been sent to the spot to verify the details and was trying to find out the missing SPO.

Regarding two missing youth, he said let their parents file a complaint, police will investigate.

A number of policemen and some soldiers have deserted the force and have joined militant ranks in the past.  (GNS)
