Srinagar 18 Oct : Normal life remained paralysed in Kashmir valley on Thursday due to a shutdown called by the separatists and restrictions imposed by the authorities to prevent protests against the killing of two militants and a civilian in Fateh Kadal yesterday.

Reports said that all shops and other business establishments are closed in Srinagar while public transport is off the roads.

In parts of downtown Srinagar, restrictions have been imposed to prevent protests against the killing of LeT militants Mehraj ud Din Bangroo and Faib Mushtaq Waza and the son of the house owner Rayees Ahmad who were killed in a gunfight in Fateh Kadal yesterday morning.

Police have claimed that Ahmad was an “active associate” of the militants. The trio were laid to rest at the martyrs’ graveyard in Eidgah yesterday evening with thousands participating in their last rites.

Reports of shutdown have also been received from other district headquarters of the valley.

Joint Resistance Leadership – an amalgam of separatist outfits and headed by Syed Ali Geelani, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq and Yasin Malik – has called for shutdown today to protest the “repression and killings”.
