February 18: Deputy Commissioner Bandipora Shahbaz Ahmad Mirza Tuesday chaired a meeting regarding the functioning of Self Help Group (SHG) of Engineers Scheme.

The Meeting was attended by Joint Director Planning Imtiyaz Ahmad, Assistant Commissioner Development, Executive Engineers of various departments and officers from Department of Employment were present on the occasion.The meeting was informed that there are 23 SHGs registered in the district under “Self Help Group of Engineers Scheme” aimed at providing them gainful source of livelihood in the shape of works contract to the engineers as an alternative to government jobs.Officers informed that 148 works have been allotted to 92 Engineers of 23 SHGs amounting to Rs 11.27 crores by line departments including R&B, PDD, PHE and Irrigation and Flood Control during the current year.On the occasion DC Bandipora asked the line department to give due share of works to the SHGs so that the young engineers are able to earn their livelihood.

He also directed the Assistant Director Employment to circulate the complete list of SHGs of Engineers to the line departments immediately, while Line Departments have been asked to clear liabilities of work done by SHGs on priority basis.DC Bandipora stressed the concerned HoDs of line departments to adhere to the 30% quota of works—which need to be allotted to Self Help Groups (SHGs) of Engineers as per guidelines. He also asked concerned departments to furnish a complete report regarding new construction works which have been kept aside for Self Help Groups (SHGs) of Engineers.
