Srinagar June 25: A senior army officer was killed after his service rifle went off accidently in an army camp at Khundroo area of south Kashmir’s Anantnag district.

Police sources told GNS that that army’s Colonel JV Mahadik (Corps of Artillery) of army’s 21 Field Ammunition Depot (FAD) headquarters’ at Khundroo received serious bullet wounds after his gun went off as the officer crossed a speed breaker in his vehicle inside the camp.

He was immediately rushed to MI room (having medical facility) where doctors declared him dead, sources said.

Meanwhile, army’s defence ministry spokesman Col Rajesh Kalia confirmed the death of the officer in the accidental fire.

“In an unfortunate incident Col JV Mahadik (Corps of Artillery) posted at Station Headquarters, Khundroo succumbed to the injuries suffered due to accidental discharge of fire from his personal weapon while travelling in a vehicle.

The incident happened at 1620 hrs today,” the statement added. (GNS)
