Protests after infant dies due to alleged medical negligence at district hospital Bandipora

An infant died due to alleged negligence of the doctors at district hospital Bandipora in north Kashmir on Wednesday, triggering protests by her family and relatives.
Umaiya Muzaffar, three months old daughter of Muzaffar Ahmad Najar, resident of Gundpora Rampora died after being administered some vaccine in absence of doctors at DH Bandipora, the family members alleged.

Muzaffar, father of the deceased, said that they had come to the hospital to get routine vaccination done for his child.
“She was administered vaccine in the absence of doctors by some nurse as no doctor was available in the hospital. Neither the BMO nor any doctor was available in the hospital. My daughter was given poison in place of vaccine,” he said. “When we left the hospital Umaiya died in the lap of her mother just outside the hospital.”
“We have taken cognizance of the case and further investigation taken up,” said a police official, adding that a case under FIR No 13/2019 under section 304 RPC was registered at the concerned police station.
Meanwhile, protests were held inside the hospital premises by family members and locals, demanding strict action against the erring health officials.
Witnesses said the enraged family members smashed tables and doors of the hospital.
To mention, this is the second such death in the hospital in past one week. An elderly man had died due to alleged medical negligence of doctors on February 8.
