Mohd Ashraf Ganie Bureau Chief South Kashmir

Kulgam 12 July【KNZ】:The tall claims of government that they are providing special attention towards education sector on prove null and void as school building constructed in year 1960 in kulgam village is in bad condition affecting education of over 200 poor students.

The three room school building of Government Middle School Nandi Marg in Damhaal hanjipora area of South Kashmir’s Kulgam district negates the Governments tall claims of giving fillip to the education sector in the Jammu and Kashmir.

The school continues to function in the same old damaged building constructed at the time of its establishment as primary School in 1960.

Locals and the staff rue poor infrastructure including lack of space for holding classes. “50 years after the school was established, the infrastructure of the institution remains to be the same as that of the Middle School,a staffer of the school while talking to Kashmir News Zone-KNZ Bureau Chief on the condition of anonymity.”

He said that lack of space is affecting the education of the students enrolled in the school. “For at least 200 students enrolled in the institution in different classes; only three rooms are available.

Most of the times students have to attend the classes under open sky, he said while adding that sometimes classes had to be cancelled due to inclement weather conditions.

The locals While talking to the Kashmir News Zone-KNZ Bureau Chief the institution seems to have been upgraded on papers only.

“It is an irony that after the upgradation of the school, no additional building was constructed for it despite the availability of seven kanals of land for infrastructure development of this middle school,

Locals alleged that lack of infrastructure in the school has forced a large number of poor students to discontinue their studies as we cannot afford to sent our children to private schools.

Locals also allegedly that three times MLA noorabad Abdul m
Majeed Padder has visited to this school and has assured that the school building will be constructed but yet building was not constructed and students are suffering especially in bad weather when they are forced to sit at their homes.

When Kashmir News Zone-KNZ Bureau Chief Contacted Zonal education officer Kulgam he said that we have forwarded the proposal of this school to higher authorities but we are facing difficulties in getting the land for construction of school building.

We request the locals to help us in finding any alternative site to construct new school building so that students may not suffer anymore.KNZ
